Plush, Medium, or Firm? Choosing the Right RV Mattress Feel for RV Owners and Campers
Share
Comfort preference feels personal — and it is — but there are a few RV-specific and camper-specific factors that make this choice different for RV owners, trailer owners, and campers than picking a mattress for a house.
Consider your sleep position. Side sleepers among RV owners and campers generally do better with plush to medium (more cushion at the shoulders and hips). Back and stomach sleepers usually do better with medium to firm (more support, less sinking) — important in a smaller RV or trailer bed.
Consider how your RV, trailer, or camper actually gets used. If you're full-timing in your RV or doing extended trailer trips, your body will thank you for a level of support closer to what you're used to at home. If your camper sees occasional weekend use, comfort preference matters more than long-term support.
Consider who's sleeping on your RV mattress. If you and a travel partner have different preferences, that's one of the most common questions we get from RV owners and camper couples — and it's worth a direct conversation with us before you order, because there are ways to accommodate that without buying two separate RV mattresses.
Consider temperature. RVs, trailers, and campers run hotter and colder than houses depending on season and insulation. Firmer RV mattresses with more airflow tend to sleep cooler; plush mattresses can retain more heat in a closed-up trailer or motorhome.
If you're still not sure, that's a completely normal place to be for RV owners and campers — most people aren't sure until they've actually slept on something. That's part of why we offer a 60-Day Comfort Guarantee: try your new RV mattress in real camping conditions, not a showroom floor.
